memory archive – day 54.1

There is a picture book that I really like about sibling rivalry/camaraderie. At one point the two brothers in the book bond over a long line of things that they build with all the toys that they both own. It’s very sweet and I like reading this particular part to my children, however, I am happy that they never tried to reenact this.  Continue reading “memory archive – day 54.1”

memory archive — day 53

Out with the old, in with the new.

After about two years of trying to get our dishwasher replaced (it was so old, it was becoming a serious health threat), the landlord finally gave in. I am only adding the dishwasher to the memory archive as I’d like to keep hold of one particular memory regarding it. Continue reading “memory archive — day 53”

Over the weekend I’ve gotten rid of little things here and there which are not really worth talking about. Alternatively, as Japan is becoming greener from day to day now, I thought it’d be a good time to write something about the love for (indoor) greenery in Japan, as I had promised in a recent post. You can find today’s post on some thoughts on life in Japan.

For a few years now my daughter has been spending lots of time on crafts related to geography at her school. She’s been very happy colouring in lots of different country flags or cutting out the shapes of continents, creating a complete globe out of those. She’s also participated in many culture days which are extremly common due to the International environment she’s growing up in.  Continue reading “memory archive – day 51”

memory archive – day 50

I had a conversation with a friend a while back. I think I was complaining about all the silly little arguments regarding domestic matters that so often become a common thing when you are in a long-term relationship. As an example, I mentioned the reoccurring discussions I have with my partner about clearing up the piles of things that can be found all over the house. My friend knew this problem only too well herself. Her explanation was that there is not much you can do regarding these clashes as there are pile people and non-pile people. In her case her partner was the former and she the latter. In my relationship I am clearly the one creating piles. Continue reading “memory archive – day 50”

The item I am discarding today is deeply connected to my trip of a lifetime. I believe most people have had at least one travel experience in their life that they would call formative. In my case it was two months backpacking through Thailand with my girlfriends – a memorable experience none of us will ever forget, not necessarily for the right reasons. memory archive — back on

After a week off, enjoying sakura in Tokyo, I’m back, refreshed and ready to continue with my memory archive — clearing the house by discarding no longer needed items and writing about the memories they hold.

As per my method of one item a day, it is getting easier to part from things. However, in terms of creating my ideal, clean and simple space that I’ve been craving for, so far I’ve only scratched the surface. Continue reading “memory archive — back on”
