This is the answer sheet of a birthday treasure hunt that I came up with. The sheet has been floating around the house, being spotted in various places over the past months, so I finally decided that we do no longer have to keep it. Even though there were tears, a (minor) injury and lots of pointing at hints involved, the treasure hunt was a success, I’d say.
One of the food discoveries I made over the past years, living in Japan, was finding out about ume (Japanese plum). Rather an apricot than a plum, it is easily distinguished by its extremely sour taste. Continue reading “memory archive – day 61.1”

When clearing out an old wallet today, I came across some old business cards. There are good memories attached to those, the reason I kept the cards in the first place.
Something a bit more colourful. Some plastic toy whistles that I found in a cupboard had to go today. They are the party bag leftovers of my daughters first ever, proper, birthday party which took place quite a few years back. I was a complete beginner than in terms of kid’s birthday parties and had only just learned about the importance of party bags – I don’t think there was anything like that when I grew up. All the kids loved the whistles; I’m not so sure about their parents though.

Going through the bathroom cupboard, which is stuffed full with more or less needed items, I came across the above cardboard boxes. I haven’t posted anything for three days which doesn’t mean though that my decluttering project has been on hold. In the background I’ve been following through with my one a day (or more) rule, I just haven’t found the time to write about it. I realised that I was being a little too ambitious with my plan to post something on a daily basis so, from now on, I think I stick to writing about my progress a little less frequently.

One of the Japanese items that I’m a fan of are the thin cloths – furoshiki and tenugui – that you can use for wrapping things (such as lunch bento boxes or gifts), as a hand towel or as wall decoration.
