When clearing out an old wallet today, I came across some old business cards. There are good memories attached to those, the reason I kept the cards in the first place.

Something a bit more colourful. Some plastic toy whistles that I found in a cupboard had to go today. They are the party bag leftovers of my daughters first ever, proper, birthday party which took place quite a few years back. I was a complete beginner than in terms of kid’s birthday parties and had only just learned about the importance of party bags – I don’t think there was anything like that when I grew up. All the kids loved the whistles; I’m not so sure about their parents though.

I’ve been writing about my reluctance to get rid of anything baby related. This army of baby bottles and other feeding utensils are a prime example. Continue reading “memory archive — day 58.1”

Going through the bathroom cupboard, which is stuffed full with more or less needed items, I came across the above cardboard boxes. Ever since I worked on packaging in a previous job, I find it difficult to discard of well-designed, simple boxes and other containers. Continue reading “memory archive – day 57.2”

I haven’t posted anything for three days which doesn’t mean though that my decluttering project has been on hold. In the background I’ve been following through with my one a day (or more) rule, I just haven’t found the time to write about it. I realised that I was being a little too ambitious with my plan to post something on a daily basis so, from now on, I think I stick to writing about my progress a little less frequently.
As per today’s first item, I picked a concert ticket from a gig I went to last night. Continue reading “memory archive – day 57.1”

Another (Japanese inspired), minimalistic pattern. It’s from a dress that I, very reluctantly, decided to sort out today. Continue reading “memory archive – day 56”

One of the Japanese items that I’m a fan of are the thin cloths – furoshiki and tenugui – that you can use for wrapping things (such as lunch bento boxes or gifts), as a hand towel or as wall decoration. Designs range from traditional Japanese patterns and images to more abstract, modern or playful variations. Continue reading “memory archive – day 55.1”

Today’s second post, is a short one. A broken coffee mug that has been kept for weeks now. I love the brownish-grey colour: taupe. The memory here is that we got the mug and other crockery just before moving to Japan. It seemed a good time for an update. Little did we know back then about all the beautiful ceramics that Japan has to offer…

Some more kiddy stuff today. Reluctantly, I’m trying to get rid of the baby carrier. It retired a long time ago but the memory of my kids in it, snuggling up against me, is still vivid. Well, that’s what I’ve been telling myself. Continue reading “memory archive – day 54.2”

There is a picture book that I really like about sibling rivalry/camaraderie. At one point the two brothers in the book bond over a long line of things that they build with all the toys that they both own. It’s very sweet and I like reading this particular part to my children, however, I am happy that they never tried to reenact this. Continue reading “memory archive – day 54.1”
