memory archive — day 45

I think so far I haven’t gotten rid of any real knick-knack — small, decorative and often fairly useless objects. I found such an item today. It’s a peculiar salt shaker in the shape of a duck (with make-up).

It does look odd as it is but the key feature, which makes this object even stranger, is it’s wind-up mechanism; the idea being that you can send it across the table to whoever needs some salt.

I never tried it with the kids. They would go crazy. I’ve been a bit attached to it, I have to admit, as it’s so bizarre. When, today, I discovered the salt shaker on one of the kitchen shelves though, I was kind of relieved that the lid/shaker part of it was missing. No more excuses to keep it.
